New website launch: Chantelle Henocq Ceramics

Scampi Fries, Dip Dabs, Love Hearts and Monster Munch, all made from clay. Chantelle Henocq hand-builds small ceramic sculptures of the sweets and snacks we grew up with, and decorates each one by hand in her studio in West Coker, Somerset. She came to me for a website to sell them.

You can see the finished site at chantellehenocq.co.uk.

The brief

Chantelle wanted an online store where people could buy her pieces directly. Just as importantly, she wanted the site to feel understated, like an artist's website rather than a busy shop.

Her work is colourful and full of personality, so the design needed to step back and let the ceramics do the talking. We kept the layout clean and simple, with plenty of space around the photography, so each piece gets the attention it deserves.

What I built

The site is built on Squarespace and includes:

  • An online shop, with payments linked and set up so Chantelle can take orders straight away

  • A gallery, news page and about page telling the story behind her studio

  • Details of her commissions, including personalised pieces with the recipient's birthday painted as the "Best Before" date

  • Google Search Console linked, so the site is indexed and we can keep an eye on how people are finding it

Handing it over

I always want clients to feel confident looking after their own website once it's live. Chantelle and I spent one afternoon together over Zoom and another face to face, making the final amendments and going through how to update the site herself.

She can now add new pieces to the shop, upload photos and post news without needing to call me every time, though I'm always on hand if she does.
