What a Full Rebrand Actually Involves

It's More Than a New Logo

When a business decides to rebrand, the assumption is often that it's mostly a design job: a new logo, maybe new colours, done. In practice, a proper rebrand touches far more than that - and skipping any of it is usually what makes a rebrand feel incomplete.

Beyond the Logo

  • New domain and email setup: a rebrand isn't finished if half your correspondence still comes from the old name

  • Website rebuild, not just a reskin: new branding rarely fits cleanly into old page structures and copy

  • Rewritten copy throughout: tone and messaging usually need to shift alongside the visual identity, not just the colours around it

  • Logo typography and visual identity, built to work consistently across web, print, and social

  • SEO metadata updates: titles, descriptions, and newsletter metadata all need to reflect the new name and positioning, or search visibility can quietly drop during the transition

The Part That Gets Overlooked: Compliance

For regulated or sensitive industries, a rebrand also means revisiting compliance documentation - advertising standards, industry-specific regulations, and any legal considerations that affect what can and can't be said. This is easy to overlook in the excitement of a visual refresh, but it's often the part that protects the business long-term.

I worked through exactly this with The Sunbeam Clinic's rebrand - the full website build planning, copy, a new domain and email, SEO metadata, logo typography, and ongoing compliance considerations specific to the clinic's field. None of that shows up in the finished logo, but all of it is what makes the rebrand actually hold together.

Why Doing It Properly Matters

A rebrand done partially - new logo, old everything else - often confuses customers rather than refreshing the business in their eyes. Consistency across every touchpoint is what makes a rebrand feel intentional rather than half-finished.

Where to Start

If a rebrand feels overdue but overwhelming, it doesn't need to happen all at once, but it does help to map out everything it will eventually need to touch, so nothing gets missed along the way.
